The financial side of divorce
is about to get a lot less expensive.
This fall, Onward will launch tools to help you securely automate tedious financial processes, safely create your financial picture, and prepare state-required financial disclosure documents. Whether you plan to handle this on your own or want to dramatically reduce your lawyer’s billable hours, Onward can help reduce time, cost, and stress.
Onward is launching first in California. Get notified when it will be available in your state.
A few helpful answers about our upcoming financial disclosure tool.
Can I use Onward if my spouse isn’t involved?
Yes. Your account is yours alone, and your spouse doesn’t need one. Each spouse in a California divorce completes their own disclosure, so you can work on yours independently.
Is my financial information safe with Onward?
Yes. Bank-level encryption protects your information throughout Onward, and connected accounts are read-only, so Onward can see balances but can’t move money. Your data is never sold, and you can delete it anytime.
Does Onward work if I have an attorney or a mediator?
Yes. Onward organizes your finances before you meet, so the hours you’re paying for go to strategy instead of sorting statements. Export what you’ve built and bring it along.
What does Onward cost?
Onward has a discounted, one-time introductory price of $249, with no long-term commitment. That’s less than one hour with the average CA family law attorney, who bills $400. The Financial Forecaster is free.
Do I file my financial disclosure with the court?
No. In California, your disclosure documents go to your spouse, not the court. The only thing you file is the FL-141 service declaration, confirming the exchange happened.
Is Onward only for California right now?
California is where Onward starts. Disclosure forms are state-specific, so the tool is built around California’s requirements, including the FL-142 Schedule of Assets and Debts and the FL-150 Income and Expense Declaration.
What financial documents does California require in a divorce?
California requires each spouse to serve a Preliminary Declaration of Disclosure: the FL-140 Declaration of Disclosure, the FL-142 Schedule of Assets and Debts, and the FL-150 Income and Expense Declaration. Onward completes all three.
How long do I have to complete my financial disclosure in California?
60 days. The clock starts when you file your Petition or your Response. Most of that window goes to tracking down documents and pulling together complex financial information, which Onward automates.
What’s the difference between California’s FL-142 and FL-150 forms?
The FL-142 Schedule of Assets and Debts covers what you own and owe. The FL-150 Income and Expense Declaration covers what you earn and spend. A California divorce requires both.
What happens if my California disclosure isn’t complete?
Incomplete or inaccurate disclosure can mean delays, more requests for information, higher legal costs, and, in some cases, financial penalties. Doing it once, correctly, is the shortest way through.
